This two-week summer intensive is designed for all teachers, K-8 to increase their knowledge of, and skills using, critical thinking and arts integration.  Critical thinking is . . . . . Arts integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art.

In Week One:

Teachers will learn the fundamentals of critical thinking and how to incorporate these skills into their classroom.

Participants will practice and refine their skills in enabling students to engage in more in-depth learning processes.

Participants will also engage in activities that will help you better understand your students’ thought processes.

Be ready to move, and create, and actively participate in this learning experience!

In Week Two:

Creates a safe learning environment allowing the child to explore, experience, and discover.

Uses assessment, accountability and data to inform future instruction.

Creates opportunities for multi-modal learning for engaging a broad range of student learning styles (and teacher delivery styles).

Provides multiple and varied learning experiences.

Connects to students’ prior knowledge and patterns of learning and play.

Demands student involvement that shifts lessons from teacher-directed to student-directed.

Fosters critical thinking, creativity, resiliency, problem solving, and cooperation.

I am incorporating higher level questioning and critical thinking every content area, every day. I also use what I learned . . . to find ways to infuse art into my lessons and my assessment to meet the needs of all students.
